How does it work ?

The C-BIRDS ONE is composed of a balloon an UAV, and their operating payloads. A set of C-BIRDS ONE forms a CLIMATE BIRDS network.

TETHERED BALLOONS

A-NSE tethered balloons ranging in size from can operate at altitudes up to 400 m. They can fly instrument payloads weighing up to 30 kg such as a lidar (optical head and processing unit).

They can be manoeuvred in winds up to 80 km/h and over the duration of a 15-day flight.

Functions
  • Enables measurement of : polluants (gaz and particles), wind profile and turbulence in the first atmospheric layer. Enables to determine the features of this atmospheric layer and its thermal signature
  • Ongoing and representative monitoring thanks to fibre optic which recovers data instantly

THE BOREAL UAS

The BOREAL UAS developed by M3 Systems has a wingspan of 4.2 m and is capable of flying 1,000 km at altitudes of up to 4,500 m and a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

Able to operate autonomously for 10 hours, BOREAL makes it possible to gather mobile data constantly and continuously from every corner of a city and its outskirts.

Operating payloads

Carried by the balloon and the UAV, the operating payload is the miniature measuring instruments which collect various components of the urban climate.
